In the Tamil Christian tradition, there are a variety of names used to refer to God both in the Bible and during prayers. Basically, God is translated and used in two different words, Karthar and Devan. Both are used interchangably, and the former term is mostly used only by the Christians to refer to God. The word Lord is roughly translated as Aandavar. Apart from this, there are other words used by Tamil Hindus to refer to God such as Saami, Kadavul, Iraivan,.. but these words are not used by Christians to refer to God, but could be used in other respectful contexts.
The name Jesus is translated into Tamil as Yesu. Christ is rendered as Christu. Also for referring to the names of the Trinity namely Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the words Pithaa, Kumaaran and Parisutha Aavi are used respectively.
